In the digital transformation, competencies, budget and digital integration are in demand and all three topics still pose challenges for purchasing. Only 2% of the buyers surveyed today have fully automated and integrated procurement processes. 54% of companies have started digitalizing, but are usually unable to make progress due to a lack of IT skills or a lack of integration.
On November 6, purchasing executives from Swiss companies met to discuss their current challenges in Purchasing 4.0.
In the event organized jointly by procure.ch, JAGGAER, and SWIS IPG PARTNERS GROUP, process focuses, best practice and new technologies were discussed with which purchasing can become a data center and thus contribute significantly to increased word creation.
In the event, which was limited to 30 places, the participants held exciting discussions about the necessary prerequisites and the right strategy for starting Procurement 4.0.
The action framework presented by Carsten Vollrath, IPG GROUP, was confirmed by all participating purchasing representatives as their own ambition and objective. The purchasing organizations represented are then striving to significantly increase their own value contribution in the following three digital fields:
- Focus EFFIENCY: Digitization of purchasing processes
- Focus on EFFECTIVITY: Using digital tools and services to network purchasing internally and externally
- Focus BUSINESS INNOVATION: Strategic support of the digitalization of the company through the purchasing department
Michael Rösch, JAGGAER, presented an overview of the history of artificial intelligence and the central application areas of AI in procurement. Mr. Rösch pointed out the difference between weak and strong AI and gave an exciting insight into the current as well as the planned digital JAGGAER tools and their new AI based functionalities.
This was followed by a practical presentation by Martin Hogg, SC Processes & Tools Manager at Bystronic Laser AG, who presented the current status of JAGGAER implementation in Bystronic Purchasing and provided interesting insights into current and future fields of action for digital purchasing solutions.
The lecture part was rounded off by Katrin Schaerer, educational consultant of procure.ch, who presented the new educational offer of procure.ch "Certified Digital Procurement Manager". The six-day course has already been successfully held twice in Zurich and the third series is already scheduled for March 2020.
The subsequent standing buffet was followed by an extension of the stimulating exchange of ideas and networking until well after 10 p.m. with practical tips to help set the course for a sustainable purchasing organization.
